Singapore commits S$150 million to Marvel-AI materials research platform

Singapore has pledged S$150 million toward the Marvel-AI materials research platform.

This government investment aims to boost innovation, improve productivity, and reinforce Singapore's standing in global technology. The announcement was made on October 27, 2026, during SWITCH 2026, the Singapore Week of Innovation and Technology.

The platform, which marries artificial intelligence with robotics, seeks to expedite the discovery and verification of novel materials. It will concentrate on four specific material areas.

Marvel-AI is designed to screen as many as 470 distinct metal alloys daily. Target uses for these materials include semiconductors, advanced manufacturing, energy, and chemicals.

The government has also revealed the initial 24 companies selected for its Champions of AI programme. These companies include DBS, OCBC, and Singapore Airlines.

Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong emphasized the productivity benefits, stating, "AI offers opportunities to raise productivity, and develop new products and capabilities." He also highlighted the need to foster talent in automation and materials science.

The Marvel-AI initiative is part of RIE2030, Singapore's long-term research spending plan. Furthermore, it aligns with the AI-for-Science programme (AI4S), which began in June 2026 with a S$120 million allocation.

Combining these commitments, Singapore has allocated a total of S$270 million for AI-driven scientific research within a short timeframe.
